Matt Wells is 19 years old and his passion is fishing. The man has been kayaking for years in the northern waters of New Zealand, but he has never come across a powerful predator. Everything changed at the beginning of February. As he reported, the white -beaten jacket, which was coming next to him, first took … the royal mackerel.
A nineteen -year -old one and a half weeks ago, as if nothing had been sailed around the northern coast of New Zealand and fished fish. At one point he felt he had uninvited company. He noticed that something was wrong, because his living lure began to behave strangely in the water. He turned to check what was going on.
– I noticed a small vortex behind the kayak and thought “oh, how cool, the royal mackerel feeds behind me,” as usual, these fish do at the surface. Then the vortex increased to the width of maybe three cars. A shiver passed me – he said.
It turned out that the white flashlight flows behind Wells.
“I am grateful that I came out of it completely unscathed”
When the shark began to emerge from the water, Wells simply shouted and cursed. Everything was recorded by a camera hooked on a kayak.
– He is still behind me, he just flows behind me. I can't laugh if I am eaten. What should I do to make it give me peace? It's still right behind me – I can hear on the recording.
In local media, Wells said that although he has been fishing for fish for 13 years, he never happened to come across such a predator. He added that that day he hoped to catch a large fish, but the shark exceeded his wildest expectations. He also apologized for the vocabulary that appears on the recording.
– When the shark reaches such sizes, its main source of food are sea mammals. And I was a sea mammal then. […] Fishing on a kayak is always a risk. You enter a large animal – he added.
Wells also said that as soon as he managed to reach the shore, he immediately called his family to tell them what happened. He heard that he should reckon with the fact that one day he would come to such a meeting.
– It finally had to happen. It was terrifying, but in retrospect I am somewhat grateful that I could experience it. And I am grateful that I came out completely unscathed, having a good story to tell – he said.
