Cancer, loss of testicle, chemotherapy. After two years he became the Polish champion, and after six years he became Alan's father
Michał was 24 years old when he was diagnosed with left testicular cancer. He was a husband, father, professional athlete. The tumor turned out to be malignant and also spread to the lymph nodes in the abdomen. After two surgeries and chemotherapy, he recovered. He returned to the ice, won the title of Polish Ice Hockey Champion, and after a few years became a father again. Today he appeals to men: – Get checked and do not delay your visit to the doctor. There's no shame in it, and it could save your life.
- You can and even need to be examined at any time, and as part of the “Mosznowładców” campaign, free PSA and ultrasound tests will be available on November 30 in Katowice (Galeria Katowicka from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and in Gorzów Wielkopolski (NoVa Park from 10 a.m. to 18) and December 7 in Stargard (AquaStar from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
- Michał was in the one percent of the male population who suffer from testicular cancer. It is the most common cancer in young men aged between 15 and 35-40.
- As with any cancer, quick diagnosis is extremely important. Dr. Rafał Przybyła: the appearance of metastases is a matter of weeks, and sometimes even a dozen or so days. If left untreated, testicular cancer can be fatal.
- Is young people's awareness and knowledge about testicular cancer increasing? Today's 20- and 30-year-olds do not feel embarrassed when they have to take off their pants – replies the expert.
- Doctors suggested a testicular implant and sperm freezing for Michał. Why is it important and why did Michał refuse?
– I thought cancer didn't affect me. I was young, active, you didn't think about such things then – says 44-year-old Michał Radwański, former Polish ice hockey representative, today president of the club and coach of one of the youth groups of UKS Niedźwiadki MOSiR Sanok.
