In Poland, on average, fifteen women die of breast cancer every day. Amazons show that lives can be saved through prevention. Ultrasound is important, but it is also important to examine yourself, because changes can be felt – in the breasts in women and in the testicles in men.
The organizers of the “Make Yourself” campaign create an extremely warm and cheerful atmosphere: they know that it is necessary for a woman to want to undress. The offer is addressed to Amazon women who often fight to take part in the campaign after battling breast cancer. Although photo sessions take place all year round, twice a week for several women, you have to wait two years for your own photos.
– I waited a very long time to get here and it was worth it. (…) I did not lose hope and exactly two weeks ago I received a call that I was invited to a meeting – says Mrs. Ewa Szpyt from Lublin.
The woman has had a breast mastectomy. There was surgery, chemotherapy, now there is hormone therapy. – In fact, when I had practically no hair left and I asked my husband to shave my head with a razor, tears flowed in streams – recalls Mrs. Ewa.
Mrs. Barbara Kula waited a year for this strip session. He drives military trucks every day. – When I heard the diagnosis that I had cancer, I thought to myself: God, I'm only 40, I'm still young, I have my whole life ahead of me, then I couldn't sleep for three nights, I just had to sort it out in my head – says the woman.
They remind us how important self-examination is
More than three hundred women with breast cancer in Poland already have photos that will later be displayed on exhibitions and billboards. This is part of a larger campaign called “Make Yourself Feel”, which is intended to encourage women to examine their breasts and not to delay it. In Poland, on average, fifteen women die from breast cancer every day. Men also die from testicular cancer. That's why the “Make Yourself” appeal is also addressed to men.

– Together with us, they show their disease, but above all they show that a woman with a scar does not lose her femininity. This is the goal of our activities, to show that perfect breasts do not define us, or perfect nails, or anything else perfect, because femininity is something more – emphasizes MaÅ‚gorzata Lakowska from the Kochasz Dopilnuj Foundation.
Monthly feeling of the breasts cannot replace an annual ultrasound examination, because ultrasound can reveal small lumps that a woman cannot yet feel under her fingers. – That's what saved my life. I don't know how things would have turned out if I hadn't done (preventive tests – editor's note) – emphasizes Mrs. Barbara Kula.
