Israel informed the mediators who brokered the ceasefire that has been in force since Sunday that the list violates the previously agreed arrangements, Israeli station Channel 12 reported.

According to the station, the dispute concerns the order in which the hostages were released. According to the agreement, kidnapped children and women who did not serve in the army were to be listed first, then female soldiers, then elderly people, men, and finally the bodies of killed prisoners of war.

Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu held consultations with the heads of the security services, after which it was decided that Saturday's exchange would take place because Hamas' violation of the agreement was not serious enough to terminate the entire agreement, wrote the Times of Israel website.

Ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

The first stage of a ceasefire in the war that has lasted over 15 months has been in force since Sunday Israel with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The agreement assumes that in the first part of the truce, which will last 42 days, 33 Hamas hostages will be exchanged for approximately 1,900 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

On Sunday, January 19, three hostages exchanged for 90 Palestinian prisoners – women and teenagers – regained their freedom. During the attack on October 7, 2023, Hamas kidnapped 251 people, 91 of them are still imprisoned. According to the Israeli army, at least 34 people from this group are dead.

The Times of Israel reported that Hamas assured the parties involved that it stood by the previous arrangements and that the reason for breaking the agreed order was technical complications.

One of the civilian hostages is being held by another terrorist organization, the Palestinian one Islamic Jihadwhere internal disputes over the exchange are ongoing, Channel 12 added.

The adopted schedule assumes that for each civilian hostage, Israel will release 30 Palestinian prisoners, and for each female soldier – 50. The Israeli prison service has already received a list of prisoners who are to be released as part of Saturday's exchange – added the Times of Israel.
