IMWM warns against a number of weather-related threats. Level 1 alerts are in effect for strong winds, downpours, icing and heavy snowfall. Forecasts show that several centimeters of snow may fall in the north of the country. The roads will become slippery and dangerous.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first-degree warnings on a three-level, increasing scale.
IMWM warnings – heavy snowfall
First degree alerts for heavy snowfall have been issued in the following voivodeships:
- Pomeranianin the western half of the region;
- West Pomeranian Voivodeshipexcluding southern counties.
Snowfall is forecast, causing the snow cover to increase by 10-15 centimeters in some places. The warnings will be valid from 9 on Wednesday until 9 on Thursday.
IMWM warnings – icing
Ice warnings are in force in the following voivodeships:
- Silesianin southern counties, where the dangerous weather will persist from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday;
- Lesser Polandin poviats located in the south of the region, where alarms will be valid from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday;
- Podkarpackiein southern counties, where warnings will be in force from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday.
It is forecast that the wet surface of roads and sidewalks will freeze after rain, sleet and wet snow, causing them to become icy. The air temperature will drop to about 0 degrees C, and at the ground to -2 degrees C.
IMWM warnings – strong wind
IMWM warns against strong wind gusts. Alarms against this weather threat are valid in the following voivodeships:
- West Pomeranian Voivodeshipin northern counties;
- Pomeranianin northern and eastern counties;
- Warmian-Masurian Voivodeshipin the counties: Braniewo, ElblÄ…gElblÄ…g,
- Silesianin southern counties;
- Lesser Poland;
- Świętokrzyskiein southern and central counties;
- Podkarpackieoutside the northern counties.
Alarms in Pomerania, Western Pomerania and Warmia i Masuria will be valid until 13 on Wednesday. In Silesia, the warnings will expire at 8 on Wednesday, in Podkarpacie at 12 on Wednesday, and in Małopolska at 11 on the same day. In the province Świętokrzyskie alerts will be valid from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
IMWM warnings – heavy rainfall

What are IMWM first degree warnings?
