On Wednesday, the services began to exercise at the Katowice-Pyrzowice airport to learn how to cooperate with each other and fight criminals as effectively as possible. During the operations planned for two days, police officers, guards, soldiers and commandos must, among other things, effectively rescue hostages and neutralize explosives. The TVN24 team is observing the exercises.
The activities are carried out under the codename CEPEX24. They began on Wednesday with a press briefing of representatives of institutions and services responsible for security. The need to improve cooperation in conditions of terrorist threats was discussed by, among others, the Silesian Voivode – Marek Wójcik, the head of the Silesian police – Superintendent. Mariusz Krzystyniak. The Chief of Staff of the Special Forces Component, Col. Krzysztof Banaszek, and the Silesian Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service – Brig. Wojciech Kruczek.
– Cepex24 is one of the largest projects of this type in Silesia in recent years. The exercise scenario includes, among others: hostage situations, neutralization of explosives and many other unforeseen situations that the services must face in order to effectively control the threat – says tvn24.pl, Commissioner Sabina Chyra-Giereś from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice.
Two days of training
On Wednesday, a mock fight against terrorists took place at the airport in Pyrzowice, and on Thursday the exercises take place at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów.
– The script is kept secret until the last minute. The idea is that the service representatives will be surprised by it and have to make immediate decisions. I can only say that the plan includes, among others: hostage situations, neutralization of explosives and many other unforeseen situations – says Chyra-Giereś.
The exercises – as the policewoman points out – contribute to increasing the level of safety and ensuring an effective response to any potential threats.
