In the latest interview, “First lady. Jolanta Kwaśniewska in conversation with Emilia Padoł“, which premieres on October 23, Jolanta Kwaśniewska she opened up to personal and, as it turns out, difficult experiences. In a recently revealed fragment, Aleksander Kwaśniewski's wife talked about the unexpected death of her mother. Now another important moment in the life of the former first lady has come to light. In the book she talked about the birth of her daughter Alexandra.
Jolanta Kwaśniewska talked about giving birth. It wasn't easy
Childbirth, considered an extraordinary experience for the then future first lady, was traumatic. Three days before the due date, Kwaśniewska stopped feeling the baby's movements. Concerned, she went to the hospital in Warsaw at Starynkiewicza Square, which was opened at the beginning of the 20th century and was then considered one of the most modern maternity facilities in Europe. However, time was rushing forward, and the university hospital in question no longer met patients' expectations in the mid-1980s. This was the case with my wife Kwaśniewskiwho admitted years later that she had to give birth in difficult conditions. The unpleasant “adventure” began as soon as she crossed the threshold of the room where she was placed with six other patients. “God, how young! Now babies are having babies” – Kwaśniewska heard from one of them.
However, the real nightmare began when Kwaśniewski's wife went into labor. “My water is breaking, I can hear other women giving birth screaming in the rooms on these unoccupied beds. I am walking along the corridor because I am convinced that in a moment I will have to go to one of these rooms, my fear is growing,” Kwaśniewska confessed. Full of fear and after great pain, her dream daughter was finally born. She was almost three and a half kilograms, 54 centimeters long, ten points on the Apgar scale. “I gave birth to Oleńka on February 16, after midnight. It was, as often happens with the first birth, laborious“- she recalled.
Right after giving birth, she experienced a nightmare. “A really terrible place”
However, this was not the end of the new mother's worries. Shortly after giving birth, Kwaśniewska found herself in the corridor. Moreover, as a result of medical procedures, she acquired an infection. “There was no room in the rooms, so I lay in labor in the corridor. There were two more ladies next to me,” the president began. “I finally got permission to take a bath. I go to the shower happily. I go into the cabin, a nurse comes in and says the patient who was here before me has shingles. “Oh, great – I think to myself,” she admitted, adding that the sanitary facilities were in a terrible condition. Then she began to list what made up the horrific conditions in the hospital. “Dirty, disgusting bathrooms. Showers with rotten boards on the floor. Really terrible place” – she admitted. Eventually, the woman managed to return to the room. It quickly turned out that the food served at the facility left much to be desired. “We were brought some nasty food, but next to me there was a very nice lady, whose husband was a cook and he brought her dewolaja, three pieces. So I could finally eat something decent – devolaja, and previously chicken soup,” we read. The offer to leave the hospital early made Ola's mother very happy and she immediately took advantage of the chance to get out of the “spooky” place.
