The Łódź prosecutor's office is investigating the circumstances of the death of a 55-year-old woman. The severely injured and partially naked woman was found by random people on Sunday morning on Zgierska Street. The woman was taken to hospital, but her life could not be saved. According to investigators, the 55-year-old was the victim of a drastic rape. A 40-year-old man has been charged in this case, who is said to have committed the crime while being a recidivist.
The woman – as reported by Krzysztof Kopania from the Łódź District Prosecutor's Office – was found on Sunday at around 7 a.m. on a green belt near a night shop on Zgierska Street in Łódź. – A person passing by accidentally noticed a lying, partially naked woman. There were numerous injuries visible on her body, she was very cold and unconscious – reports prosecutor Kopania.
The 55-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to one of the hospitals in Łódź, where she underwent surgery to remove the hematoma. Unfortunately, her life could not be saved. “Everything indicated that she had been the victim of a drastic rape,” says Kopania.
Rape that resulted in death
Investigators determined that the 55-year-old lived several hundred meters from the place where she was found by passers-by. According to the prosecutor's office, the victim had been drinking alcohol the evening before with three other people – two men – aged 40 and 49 – and a 47-year-old woman.
– The evidence gathered indicates that after some time, the 55-year-old, accompanied by the 40-year-old, went to her place of residence. The 49-year-old, accompanied by the victim's 47-year-old friend, went to another place – the prosecutor said.
Krzysztof Kopania reports that the evidence gathered allowed the 40-year-old to be charged with rape, which resulted in the victim's death. – This crime was committed in conditions of recidivism. The man was arrested the same day the 55-year-old was found – says Kopania.
He adds that the investigation is underway at the Łódź-Bałuty District Prosecutor’s Office.
Arrest
Even before the rape – as the prosecutor adds – the 40-year-old was supposed to have committed another crime. Together with a 49-year-old friend, they were supposed to have attacked a random man, taking his wallet and mobile phone.
– During the interrogation, the man admitted to the robbery, but denied committing the rape. The court applied the most severe preventive measure against him in the form of three months of detention – added the spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Łódź.
Second suspect
A 49-year-old man who was allegedly involved in the drinking and earlier robbery was also charged.
– On Wednesday, the man is being questioned as a robbery suspect. After questioning, the prosecutor will make a decision on the use of preventive measures against him – Kopania added.
