– I watched with some surprise as the former deputy minister of justice uttered various epithets against state officials and prosecutors. But this only speaks volumes about this gentleman – said Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office, in “Tak jest”, commenting on Michał Woś's statement on his interrogation and the charge. The spokesman emphasized that prosecutors “are not political enemies, they are state officials who do their job”.
MP of Sovereign Poland Michał Woś (club PIS) was questioned at the prosecutor's office on Tuesday. PK spokesman Przemysław Nowak said after several hours of questioning that he had been charged with exceeding his authority and failing to fulfill his duties, related to transferring PLN 25 million from the Justice Fund to purchase Pegasus. A preventive measure in the form of police supervision was also applied. Nowak also said that the suspect had provided explanations that ran to several dozen pages of the protocol.
Meanwhile, Woś assessed at the conference after the proceedings that what the prosecutors told him was “gibberish”. He also argued that “he did not provide explanations in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure, but he did provide a very extensive position”. Moreover, according to him, the charges “were brought ineffectively” because, in his opinion, the National Prosecutor's Office acts as an “unauthorized body”. He expressed a similar opinion about PK at the conference before the hearing, where he also criticized the prime minister and the current government.
“Calling the charges gibberish is a form of contempt for prosecutors”
– I watched this morning's speech with some surprise that various epithets against state officials and prosecutors who do their job were uttered by the former deputy minister of justice. But this only speaks volumes about this gentleman – Przemysław Nowak commented on Woś's statements in the “Tak jest” program.
When asked if the term “bodnarowcy” hurt him the most, he replied that “I've been lurking for a while now”. – Of course, it's a term that shouldn't be used because of its obvious connotations – he said. – I think a new term has also been used here: gumisie – he noted.
– However, calling the charges gibberish is a form of contempt for prosecutors. These are not political enemies, these are public officials who do their job. The prosecutor who announced these charges became a prosecutor in the position he holds in 2014. So he was appointed by Andrzej Seremet, the prosecutor general. There is no doubt about his status here – he pointed out.
He stressed that therefore “any claims made by the suspect that the prosecutor who performed this activity was not properly authorised are absolutely unfounded”.
