Michał Woś stripped of immunity. Stormy discussion and exchange of opinions between Szymon Hołownia and the PiS chairman

On Friday The Sejm agreed to waive the immunity of Michał Wosi. The vote on this matter was preceded by a heated exchange of opinions between a group of MPs and the Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia. MP Woś was the first to approach the seat occupied by the Marshal of the Sejm, trying to get time at the rostrum, among other things, by submitting a formal motion. – Unfortunately, we have a very clear interpretation of the regulations in this matter – Hołownia replied to Woś. – This matter was discussed yesterday (…) I do not accept this motion, we will vote on this motion (to lift Michał Woś's immunity – ed.) right now. The discussion on this topic has taken place. We are not holding a discussion on this matter – added the Marshal of the Sejm.

Then the MPs came to the podium Paul Kukiz and Michał Wójcik, also demanding that Michał Wosio be given the floor. From the Sejm hall, shouts could also be heard addressed to the Speaker of the Sejm not to be afraid. – I'm not afraid of anything, I follow the rules. Please don't impute me, please leave the rostrum, I'm asking you to leave the rostrum – replied Hołownia.

At that time, the president also appeared on the podium PIS Jaroslaw Kaczynski and MP Sebastian Kaleta (Sovereign Poland), who loudly appealed for Michał Woś's “right to defense”. – Yes, but as you surely know, because you are an outstanding lawyer, we are not in court, but we are in the Sejm. The Sejm proceeds according to the regulations – Hołownia replied to Kaleta and reminded that Michał Woś had the opportunity to speak from the Sejm rostrum the day before. – But please do not all shout at me at once, because I cannot speak calmly, and I would like to – he added.

Then the PiS chairman began to address Szymon Hołownia from the rostrum. Among Jarosław Kaczyński's words, one can understand, among others, “you brutally did not take into account…”, as well as the accusation of “compromise”. – Thank you very much for this opinion, Mr. Chairman – replied Hołownia. – Yes, I accept this opinion. It hurts my heart, but I will try to live with it, Mr. Chairman – said the Marshal of the Sejm. – But please do not get carried away, Mr. Chairman, because you may cross certain boundaries that we would not like to have crossed in this chamber – he added when Kaczyński was leaving the rostrum.

The discussion with the Speaker of the Sejm continued for a long time, and from the podium one could hear, among others: allegations of “violation of the constitution”. – This is not a violation of the constitution, and besides, innocent people have nothing to fear – commented Hołownia, and then moved on to vote on the motion to waive Michał Woś's immunity.

The Marshal was asked about the words that Jarosław Kaczyński addressed to the Speaker of the Sejm from the podium after the Sejm vote by a TVN24 reporter. – I am in a difficult situation because, in a sense, I am dominant towards President Kaczyński. Because what I say is heard, and what he says is not heard – replied Szymon Hołownia.

– So I wouldn't like to emphasize that this disproportion between us is what it is. Mr. Kaczyński was kind enough to express himself in various epithets about my intellectual condition and knowledge of the law, and also made some historical reflections about me.
