“Our society cannot cope with emotions”

The tragic event at the University of Warsaw was commented on Thursday morning by Dr. Wojciech Wosek, a criminologist from the College of Administration and Business in Gdynia.

– Factors, determinants of this event can be several and this preparatory proceedings that began, show what the motive was, or there was a motive at all, maybe it is a sudden surge of emotions that caused (such) behavior, but maybe just a planned action – said the expert.

He noted that it is too early to clearly determine what the motive of the perpetrator's action was. – There can be a lot of these factors. Generally, it can be seen by following recent events that our society is not able to cope with emotions and this can also be one of the factors that led to this event – he said.

“Everything can be a tool in the hands of the perpetrators”

Dr. Wosek said that “you will definitely have to explain potential correlations, motives resulting from the fact of studying this perpetrator at the University of Warsaw.” – Whether during his studies or recently his stay at the university there were any events that could accumulate this bad energy – he specified.

The TVN24 guest pointed out that “everything can really be a tool in the hands of the perpetrators.” – Here we mention the hatch, but in fact such a tool might as well be raised the stone – he noted. He added that “in history we met with such events that the perpetrators relieved by damaging bodies, using what they had on hand.”

– Here the perpetrator may have a predetermined goal, but until he is questioned, we will not really determine this goal. We can deal, but it is difficult to refer to whether he went to a specific person, or just wanted to manifest his anger, his bad emotions in some way. All this will have to explain the proceedings, the prosecutor's office and the police – said Dr. Wosek.

“This is a rapid explosion. Then these emotions fall”

The perpetrator after the attack did not escape from the crime scene. The criminologist pointed out that there may be several causes of such behavior.

– On the one hand, there may be a decrease in these emotions. This is such a rapid explosion. He made an event. These emotions fall. On the other hand, bearing in mind that he attacked the other person who went to help, we can conclude that these emotions have not yet subsided – said the expert. He admitted that “it is difficult to assess hot what is sitting in the head of such a perpetrator.”

– We often create forensic versions of what could happen, we need to take a number of different alternative threads, the reasons for the occurrence, the course of this event and what affected the perpetrator, what was the motive of his action. Hence the need to conduct a number of research, also psychological and psychiatric, by experts, which will be able to show us what the way it was (the perpetrator's actions – ed.) And why the perpetrator acted so and not otherwise – explained Dr. Wosek.
