The subject of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan appeared during Ararat Mirzoyan's conversation with journalists backstage security forum taking place in Warsaw.

The representative of the authorities in Yerevan announced that a preliminary draft of the agreement has already been prepared.

– There is an almost final draft of the peace treaty with Azerbaijan, but it is not signed because Azerbaijan each time it presents new preconditions. We see that they do not want to sign the agreement, he said.

According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, there has never been a document in the history of the world that would describe all peace aspects, and the authorities in Baku are trying hard to they extend the deadline, finding further reasons to do so.

– We can sign this document and continue working on the remaining issues. A lot of work has been done in the last two or three years despite all the challenges, escalations and attacks on Armenian territory – he added.

About further problems during talks regarding the final form peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia the head of government in Yerevan also spoke. During his speech in parliament, Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the agreement is already at the final stage of creation, but the authorities in Baku constantly want to introduce further changes to it.

– We have adopted a certain strategy and we have to stick to it. I'm not saying we should ignore what Azerbaijan is saying. On the other hand, this does not mean that after every statement from the Azerbaijani side, we should change our strategy. No, our strategy cannot change and we must consistently implement the peace plan, doing everything in our power to sign the agreement, he said.

– The fact that Azerbaijan is raising more and more new topics only means that Baku is not very willing to sign a peace treaty with Yerevan – he added.

Peace negotiations and an attempt to sign a treaty have been ongoing since November 2020. Then it was Azerbaijan as a result of a military clash gained control over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and several towns located in the border zone. The authorities in Yerevan, although initially reluctant, agreed to territorial concessions after a few months.

The main points of the agreement that are being negotiated include: the issue of mutual recognition of territorial integrity, demilitarization of the border and unblocking communication routes.
