Prosecutor's proceedings and inspections by the Prison Service and the Supreme Audit Office are ongoing regarding “numerous irregularities” in prison workplaces in Warsaw, Wronki, Strzelce Opolskie and Sieradz – the Prison Service announced on Friday.
The Prison Service published information on this matter on Friday on its website, presenting the activities of the Director General of the Prison Service, currently Colonel Dr. Andrzej Pecka. These are prison workplaces that are run as state-owned enterprises. These are Polska Grupa SW in Warsaw, PPPM Pomet in Wronki, PPOPP in Strzelce Opolskie and PPO in Sieradz (formerly PPO Rakon in Racibórz).
“In recent years, numerous irregularities have occurred in these enterprises, including the siphoning off of public funds of significant value through them,” reads a statement from the Prison Service.
Due to this situation – as we read – in February, the Director General of the Prison Service “dismissed the directors of all prison workplaces and selected their successors through a competition.” “Some of the irregularities relating to grossly irrational investments and expenses of the mentioned companies are already the subject of prosecutorial proceedings. In connection with others, audits and financial controls are still being carried out,” it was emphasized.
The irregularities concern four facilities
In the Polish SW Group in Warsaw – the largest enterprise – the audit is conducted by financial controllers of the Central Board of the Prison Service. At the same time, the activities of the Polish SW Group were subject to control by the Supreme Audit Office in the scope of the “Work for prisoners” program.
At the State Metal Industry Enterprise Pomet in Wronki – as reported by SW – gross irregularities are the subject of proceedings conducted by the prosecutor's office following a notification about the possibility of committing a crime filed by CBA. “Additionally, due to the disclosure that the former management of the company provided false data on the financial situation of the company to the Central Board of the Prison Service, an audit is currently being conducted in this matter, and after receiving its results, a notification will be submitted to the prosecutor's office,” we read in the release. .
The Ministry of Justice is currently inspecting the PPOPP in Strzelce Opolskie – as stated in the announcement.
In the fourth plant, PPO in Sieradz (formerly PPO Rakon in Racibórz), due to identified irregularities, a notification was sent to the prosecutor's office about the possibility of committing a crime regarding undue payments of rewards to the former management of this company. “This company is also to be brought under the control of the Ministry of Justice in the near future,” added the Prison Service.
SW also informed that these audits and inspections are planned to be completed at the end of November this year. SW assured that it would keep informed about further actions taken in connection with the irregularities that have occurred in these enterprises in recent years.
