From Thursday to Saturday in the hall in Radom, the Polish national team will fight for a pass to the finals of Billie Jean King Cup. The rivals of white and red will be Ukrainian and Swiss. A very difficult task before our tennis players, because they will approach these clashes weakened by the lack of Iga Świątek and Magdalena Fęcziech. The runner -up of the world WTA ranking withdrew for personal reasons, explaining this with the need to focus on herself and training. In turn, fringes suffer from wrist injury.
Świątek compared to Lewandowski. “As if he did not come to an important match”
– Apparently Iga needed it. It is not to judge if it is good, but it is a bit like Robert Lewandowski did not come to the important match of the Polish national team – says Dawid Olejniczak, a former tennis player, currently a Polsat Sport commentator.
– This can be partly compared, although the characteristics of football and tennis is completely different. On the other hand, Iga's decision must be respected, which focuses primarily on his individual career. A year ago, she played everything, also the BJK Cup finals in Spain, when we had the most powerful composition, but we lost in the semi -final with Italians. This year the situation is different, but our tennis players can afford to be promoted – he continued.
The favorites of the competition in Radom are Ukrainians. Their team will perform Elina Switolina (18. WTA) and Marta Kostjuk (25. WTA), i.e. two highest -listed players. There will also be Ludmiła Kiczekno – the ninth deblist of the world. In turn, the Swiss will be weakened by the lack of their leader Belinda Bencic. Magda Linette will take over the role of the first Polish rocket in the absence of Christmas and fringes. It seems that the second single will be Katarzyna Kawa, who will fly to Radom straight from Bogota, where she reached the final of the WTA 250 rank tournament.
– Lack of Iga Świątek is a serious weakness. If she played, we would be a clear favorite for promotion to the finals of Billie Jean King Cup. However, in such a situation, the favorites seem to Ukrainian people, which have two very strong singles, but this is a team competition. In recent years, there has been a situation in the BJK Cup in which these theoretically stronger teams lost. Let's hope that the advantage of our own court will help our team – summed up Olejniczak.
The best team from three -day struggles in Radom will get promotion to the finals of Billie Jean King Cup. Our team will play their matches on Thursday, April 10 with Switzerland and on Friday, April 11 with Ukraine. One representative match consists of two single clashes and one doubles.
