The rematch between Chantelle Cameron and Katie Taylor is anticipated to be one of the fights of the year in women’s boxing this weekend. The pair meet for the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO female light-welterweight titles at the 3Arena in Dublin.

Cameron was successful in the pair’s previous clash back in May, coming out on top by a mixed decision after the judges scored the contest 96-94, 96-94, 95-95. It was the first time Taylor had suffered a defeat in her professional career.

Polish duo Ewa Piatkowska and Oleksandra Sidorenko will be keen observers in the Dublin fight, as both boxers have been linked with fighting one of the champions in their respective divisions.

Cameron Favourite to Prevail Again

The Chantelle Cameron odds suggest the defending champion is the favourite to replicate her success from earlier this year, as she is 4/7 to come out on top. The British boxer has a professional record of 18-0 now, and she is second in the Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings in the sport, one place above Taylor.

Cameron added the IBF title to her waist when she got the better of Mary McGee in October 2021. She then became Britain’s first female undisputed champ, claiming the WBA and WBO crowns with a triumph against Jessica McCaskill in November 2022.

Taylor On Comeback Mission

When she appeared in the ring back in May, the fight in Ireland was meant to be a homecoming event against Amanda Serrano. However, the Puerto Rican boxer pulled out of the fight due to injury, which led to Cameron stepping in as a replacement.

Cameron spoiled the party in Dublin, and it now leaves Taylor in a position she has not been in before in her career. She will be looking to bounce back from her loss and repair her reputation.

Taylor still has a chance of becoming a three-weight world champion. If she reverses the result with Cameron, she will become just the second boxer in history to hold all four belts in two different divisions at the same time.

Future Opportunity for Piatkowska and Sidorenko

As the number three ranked boxer in the light welterweight division with the WBA, Piatkowska will be one of the contenders to face the winner of this bout in 2024. The former WBA super welterweight champion has suffered just one defeat so far in her career, winning 16 of her 17 contests.

Piatkowska is one of the most successful female boxers in Polish history. Should she secure a fight with either Cameron or Taylor, it would be a huge event in Poland.

In the lightweight division, Sidorenko will have aspirations of facing Taylor for her four world titles. The Polish boxer is seventh in the standings with the WBC and her reputation is improving all the time. Her most recent success came against Aleksandra Vujovic.

This weekend’s fight is another sign of how far women’s boxing has come over the last few years, as there is strong interest in this event around the world.
