– I can describe the decision of the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs in two words: pathetic and childish – he said Peter Szijjartohead of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an interview with the HVG portal.
Poland took over the presidency from Hungary. He also did not receive an invitation to the ceremony Viktor Orban.
“Poles they considered the Hungarian delegation undesirable after being granted political asylum Marcin Romanowskiformer deputy minister of justice, accused of corruption. The case pushed Polish-Hungarian relations to the bottom,” writes the Hungarian portal HVG.
The Hungarian ambassador was not invited to the gala. “He is not welcome”
Deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrzej Szejna on Polsat News he explained that the Hungarian ambassador did not receive the invitation because “He's not welcome there.”
– His country, Hungary, broke the principle of loyalty in European Union. They broke the rules provided for in the treaties and Poland, therefore, does not wish to have a representative of Hungary present – he said.
– Secondly, I would like to remind you that the Polish ambassador was summoned for consultations, which means that our relations have deteriorated. I want to say something very strongly, Hungary in the EU has been behaving like an “ugly child” for a long time (…) and they always got away with it. They always pretended that nothing had happened. This cannot be the case anymore, he added.
The deputy head of Polish diplomacy also emphasized that Warsaw cannot tolerate the actions of the government in Budapest, including: “violating the provisions of the European arrest warrant“.
– In short, Hungary behaved towards Poland, towards the European Union in an unacceptable manner – he concluded.
