A tenement house in the centre of Poznań caught fire at night. A gas cylinder exploded during a search of the basement. Nine firefighters were injured and required hospitalisation. Two are still being sought. Two other people were also injured.
A fire broke out on Sunday after midnight in a tenement house on Kraszewskiego Street in Poznań. The situation is not under control, 14 fire brigades are fighting the fire. The flames have spread to the roof of a neighboring tenement house.
As Brigadier Lucyna Rudzińska from the press team of the Wielkopolska Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service reported, during a search of the basement to find the source of the fire, a gas cylinder exploded. Then the fire developed dynamically.
Injured and wanted
During the operation, several firefighters were injured. Marcin Tecław, press officer of the City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Poznań, said that nine firefighters were injured. They required hospitalization, but none of them were in danger of life. Two are wanted, however, they remained in the building after the explosion.
Two civilians were also injured. They were taken to hospital.
Police and military police are also on site. Kraszewskiego Street is impassable.
Evacuation of residents
The services evacuated the residents of the building where the fire broke out and the neighboring one. Witold Rewers, director of the Crisis Management and Security Center at the city office, said that the district building inspector was called to the site to assess whether there is a chance for the residents to return to the tenement house. If this is not possible, these people will be taken to hostels.
