Russia is struggling with problems with the import of systems for monitoring glycemia levels, reports the Radio Svoboda website. This is due to the fact that the largest supplier of these systems used by diabetics, the Irish-American company Medtronic, has been subject to US sanctions.
Due to the sanctions imposed on Russia, there were problems with the import of glycemic monitoring systems needed for people with diabetes, the Radio Svoboda website reported on Thursday. This is due to the fact that the largest supplier of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, the Irish-American company Medtronic, was subject to US sanctions because its components used in the production of CGM systems were included on the list of dual-use products. Thus, they became unavailable in Russia.

Information about the shortage of Medtronic devices was confirmed by the St. Petersburg Health Care Committee and Moscow suppliers. The company’s representatives said that they are “working to ensure stable supplies” of products to Russia. So far, products from the American company Abbott remain on the Russian market, but they are not intended for diabetic children under the age of 4, Radio Svoboda reports.
In August, Russia’s health surveillance service (Rozsdrawnadzor) registered China’s first glycemic monitoring system. However, according to Natalia Mokrysheva, director of the Endocrinology Center of the Russian National Center for Medical Research, it does not meet the appropriate requirements, the portal wrote.
