Since the beginning of this season, Ćukasz Piszczek has been back in the Borussia Dortmund structure. In the years 2010-2021, the Pole was football player of this club, and now he is one of the assistants in the staff of the Turk Nuri Sahin. – My tasks include working with defenders, conducting a given exercise, and when we train, for example, defending the penalty area, I have to draw the players' attention to detail. Then we analyze, talk about what can be done better in the future. I am setting off into the unknown and I don't know where I will end up – said Piszczek in an interview.
Borussia started the new season with a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and a goalless draw with Werder Bremen. In the third round, BVB's opponent was Heidenheim, a Bundesliga newcomer from the previous season, who managed to advance to the European cups, or more precisely, the European Conference League.
BVB concert at Signal Iduna Park. Sahin fell into Piszczek's arms
From the very beginning, Borussia tried to assert their dominance and impose the initiative on their opponents. In the twelfth minute, BVB were leading 1-0 after a goal by Donyell Malen. The Dutchman took a shot from the edge of the penalty area, and the ball bounced off the goalkeeper's leg and went into the goal. Right after the goal, Sahin turned towards the bench and fell into the arms of Piszczek and one of his other teammates. Five minutes later, Borussia scored for the second time after Karim Adeyemi successfully finished off a counterattack.
Heidenheim managed to respond in the first half. Omar Haktab Traore crossed the ball from the right side of the pitch into the penalty area, and Marvin Pieringer won the battle for position with Waldemar Anton and headed the ball past Gregor Kobel. In the 41st minute, BVB had a two-goal lead again after Adeyemi's finish in the opponents' penalty area. Basically everything about Borussia's game impressed.
In the 59th minute, Borussia could have struck a fourth blow after a counterattack. Julian Brandt played through to Adeyemi. The German tried to play a pass deep into the penalty area to Serhou Guirassy, ââbut the ball was played behind him, so there was no accurate shot on Heidenheim's goal. Seven minutes later, Borussia scored a fourth time through Marcel Sabitzer, but the goal was disallowed because Pascal Gross had previously helped himself to the ball with his hand. However, this situation caused a lot of controversy among pundits.
In the 73rd minute, Heidenheim were awarded a penalty for a foul by Nico Schlotterbeck on an opponent. BVB were only winning 3:2 after a goal by Maximilian Breunig. For a long time, it seemed that the result of this match would not change. In the second minute of added time, Borussia were awarded a penalty for a handball by Traore. Emre Can scored the goal for 4:2.
Thanks to the 4-2 victory over Heidenheim Borussia Dortmund has taken the lead in the Bundesliga with seven points. BVB can be overtaken by Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig if they beat Holstein Kiel and Union Berlin respectively this round.
