Houthi rebels announced on Thursday that Israel fired at targets in Sana'a and the port of Hodeidah Yemen. Reuters, in turn, recalled that the Houthis have been shelling Israel in recent days. The Israeli army said that in addition to the Houthi military infrastructure in Sana'a and Hodeidah, it also attacked targets in other ports and energy facilities. In recent days, the US army has also fired at Yemeni targets. On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “the Houthis will also learn the same lesson as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Assad regime.”
The head of the WHO was at the airport under fire
The shelling of targets in Sana'a began when Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus With WHO was about to board the plane. “The air traffic control tower, the departure lounge – just a few meters from where we were – and the runway were damaged,” Ghebreyesus wrote on social media, adding that he and his WHO colleagues were safe.
Ghebreyesus also reported that one of the crew members of the plane he was supposed to be on was injured. He also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the attack.
The head of WHO and his colleagues must wait for the damage to the airport to be repaired.
Three people died
The Israeli attacks took place during a speech by Houthi leader Abdul al-Malik al-Houthi, noted the Times of Israel website. Al Masirah TV, the main Houthi-run television station, said three people were killed in the attacks. Since also supported by Iran Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023. The Houthis began a solidarity bombardment of merchant ships passing near its coast – the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
