After the wave of mass protests caused by the tragedy in the new orchard, President Aleksandar Vuczić called the government to conduct an “urgent reconstruction”. He stated that he expected to replace at least half of the office.

– Tragedies are something that every country tries to avoid, works preventively, and when they happen, it tries to draw conclusions, follows those who committed crimes, and punish them – said Aleksandar Vuczić during the Monday conference, quoted, quoted by the Danas daily portal.

He reminded that 90 days have passed since “a terrible tragedy in a new orchard.” At the beginning of November in this city in the north Serbia Part of the roof of the train station collapsed. 14 people were killed and several dozen were injured. Since then, the country has been shaken by protests, initiated by students.

– In these politically difficult times it was shown who is ready to fight, and who is not, who is ready to work, and who is not who hides in a mouse and who does not. Therefore, I expect that more than 50 percent of current ministers will be replaced in an urgent reconstruction – said Aleksandar Vuczić.

The Serbian leader admitted that he talked to the government and “everyone came to the conclusion that they wanted to listen to the other party (protesting students) and want dialogue.”

Published documents and initiated proceedings

Referring to the postulates raised during mass demonstrations, Vuczić noted that all documents were published that demonstrators demand, and criminal proceedings were initiated against 37 people who attacked the protesters.

Commenting on the demands of dismissing criminal charges raised to some participants of protests, the president stated that there is a reasonable suspicion that some of them committed criminal acts, but “if there is no other solution, he would be ready to sign a decision to argue” these people.

Four postulates

Students issued four postulates, among which – in addition to the issue of publishing documents, prosecution of people attacking protesters and rejecting the charges against demonstrators – there is a request to increase 20 percent expenditure on higher education. In December, the Serbia government decided to increase 20 percent expenditure from the budget to the university's material costs. Students, however, found that the increase concerns only part of the total funds allocated to higher education.

Thousands of protesting Serbs, in response to the appeal of students, began on Monday by a 24-hour blockade of the motorway section crossing the center of Belgrade. The blockade is to be planned on Tuesday at 10.
