The District Court in Środa Śląska applied a preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest to a retired priest, Jan J., for a period of 3 months. The 75-year-old is suspected of committing two sexual crimes against a minor.
Karolina Stocka-Mycek, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Wrocław, announced that “Jan J., 75, a retired priest, is suspected of having taken advantage of the minor's helplessness on September 20, 2024 and October 4, 2024, to make him surrender other sexual activity and sexual intercourse, i.e. acts under Article 198 of the Penal Code”
– An incident occurred in the Środa Poviat in which a minor boy was injured and a retired priest took part in it. Two of them come from the same town. On October 4, the victim's mother found out about the events and informed the police, Stocka-Mycek said.
On October 4, Jan J. left his place of residence, but the next day he turned himself in to the police and was taken to the prosecutor's office, where he was charged with both charges under Article 198 of the Penal Code.
He pleaded not guilty
“During the interrogation at the District Prosecutor's Office in Środa Śląska as a suspect, Jan J. did not confess to committing the acts he was accused of. While giving explanations, he described the circumstances of the events that were the subject of the investigation, trying, however, to minimize his guilt and shift the responsibility onto the minor victim” – adds the spokeswoman.
The District Court in Środa Śląska agreed to the prosecutor's request and arrested the retired priest for 3 months. Jan J. faces a prison sentence of 6 months to 8 years for the alleged acts.
