After returning from Austria and Germany, Wąsek had time to rest, but on Saturday it was clear that nothing had changed from his excellent form. His jumps in the Polish championships were confident and far. They won him a well-deserved gold medal.
Beautiful words by Stoch about Wąsk. “He set a certain standard”
After successes at the Four Hills Tournament – a personal result in the World Cup, i.e. fifth place in Innsbruck and eighth position in the general classification TCS – many people recalled the nickname Wąska from the beginning of his career. Due to his excellent style and flying position, he was called “Baby Stoch” in recognition of another great ski jump stylist, Kamil Stoch.
– I don't see myself in Paweł. I see Paweł Wąsek in him, who has a really bright future ahead of him – says Stoch, who was the first to approach the currently best Polish jumper on the other side series Saturday's MP competition and congratulated him on his victory. Stoch won the silver medal.
– What Paweł did at the Tournament, the way he jumped and how he dealt with pressure and emotions, was exceptional. He was probably aware that he was pulling us as a group. He has set a certain standard to which we will strive. Great. I admired what he did and I heartily congratulate him on it – says Kamil Stoch.
Wąsek thought about landing the bomb at 145 meters with the Telemark. And there is still room for improvement
At the Polish Championships, Wąsek failed mainly in the first round of the competition. He flew as much as 145 m, just two meters short of the record of the Great Krokiew held by Japanese Yukiya Sato. – Jumping over a hill like this is always a lot of great emotions. I'm glad it worked out. I was just wondering whether to land on two feet or try telemark. However, I gained quite a lot of height, and we are halfway through the season, there are a lot of competitions ahead of us, so I didn't want to take any risks. I landed safelyalthough I wasn't afraid that he would put me back together somewhere. It wasn't that far, but I preferred to stand firm – explains the jumper.
IN jumping Wąska's stability and repeatability are becoming more and more visible, and at some point this winter he had a problem with it. – You could say it's kind of automatic. I try to function this way, not to think too much about what I have to do, and just trust my muscle memory. There are still errors and I can still check and correct some things – says Wąsek.
If Wąsek still sees his mistakes even with such good jumps, what will happen when he stops making them? Maybe he will then jump into the fight for the World Cup podium? He will have such a chance on January 17-19 in Zakopane. The competitors will then compete in two World Cup competitions – team and individual.
