Russian diplomacy uses all tricks and tricks. I would not assume that there would be a suspension of a weapon – said Jan Truszczyński in TVN24, former Polish ambassador at the European Union, referring to negotiations on a truce in Ukraine. He added that in the current international situation “Europe has started to act”.
About the situation around Ukraine Jan Truszczyński, diplomat, representative of the Polish Ambassadors conference, former Polish ambassador at the European Union, in the years 2001–2005 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke in “Facts after Facts” on TVN24.
He referred, among others, to the fact that – according to the British Sky News station – a special envoy Donald Trump Steve Witkoff, who visited Moscow on Thursday, He had to wait eight hours for a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
“Putin controls these negotiations”
Truszczyński stated that it was “afront” and “conscious softening of the partner”. – Putin is known for being late everywhere and always, but eight hours is almost a record. And I have to say, Steve Witkoff had no choice – he had to wait. He went to talk, however, and finally he lived to see these conversations, and President Trump assessed these conversations as specific and productive, so maybe there were some specifics – added the former ambassador at the European Union.
The guest of TVN24 also spoke more widely about the diplomatic game on the Washington-Moscow-Kijów line.
– I think Putin controls these negotiations and it worries me very much. It is true that the agreement between the Americans and Ukrainians of the weapon suspension element creates a kind of pressure on Russia Putinowska and Putin in person, but you can simply see that all the tricks and tricks of Russian diplomacy are already used and this will be a continuation of this dilution, delay – he said.
– Some carrots will appear so as not to create the impression that everything is rejected without exception, but in general it will be an attempt to use something that the Russians consider to be their negotiating advantage, which is growing and not decreasing. I am afraid of this – Truszczyński continued, referring to the known method of stick and carrots.
Asked if he believes that he would actually reach a 30 -day arms suspension, he replied: “To be honest, I wouldn't have bet.” Because you cannot see a cooperative attitude, realism on the Russian shadow, which would actually order to first get along about the suspension of weapons, and then take peace negotiations.
“Europe has started to act”
Truszczyński also talked about what he thinks is the most interesting element of pending negotiations.
– The most interesting for me is that Europe has started to act. And may it be a momentum that has been created in recent weeks – I admit that in adverse circumstances, but it remained – it has grown and brought specific solutions on a large scale. It makes me happy, I just waited for it for a long time – he said.
– Europe is developing through crises, we would not like to have the crisis as we currently have, but I see it as an impulse for a qualitative change. May it happen in Europe this year – said the former ambassador at the European Union,
