A court in London found that 10-year-old Sarah Sharif was murdered by her father and stepmother. The crime of August 2023 shocked British public opinion. The investigation showed that before the murder, the girl had been brutally abused.

A jury found that 43-year-old Urfan Sharif and his 30-year-old wife Beinash Batool had committed the murder of his daughter Sara. Initially, the man pleaded not guilty.

On Wednesday, he said in court that he “takes full responsibility” for Sara's death, but later denied intending to kill her. “I beat her too much,” he admitted. Beinash Batool said that Urfan Sharif is a violent man, prone to violence and that he causes fear in her.

The prosecution emphasized that the perpetrators of the crime subjected the child to “serious and repeated violence.” The autopsy revealed over 70 wounds on the girl's body. Sara had burn marks from an iron, burns from hot water and bites, suffered 11 spinal fractures and had signs of a brain injury.

It was revealed that her father and stepmother had been abusing her for two years. Sharif's former neighbor testified that she heard “shockingly loud sounds of beatings” and “the girl's heartbreaking screams.”

Libby Clark, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said that in a small home with such a large family it would have been obvious to all adults what was happening to Sarah, but no one took action to stop or report it.

“In my 30-year career, I have never seen a case that involved such horrific suffering for a young person,” said Mark Chapman of Surrey Police.

In August 2023, Sarah was found dead in her home in Woking, southwest of London. Shortly after the murder, the girl's father and stepmother left for… Pakistan.

Police arrested them in September 2023 at Gatwick Airport after arriving from the United Arab Emirates. Sara's 29-year-old uncle, Faisal Malik, was freed from the charge of involvement in the crime. He was found guilty of contributing to or allowing Sarah's death.
