It's also hot in Norway. In many regions on Thursday, thermometers showed over 25 degrees Celsius, and there were also places where the temperature exceeded 30 degrees. The heat record for September was broken. Residents decided to take advantage of the summer weather in an active way.

Heat wave in early September, which brings high thermometer readings in much of Europealso reached Norway. On Thursday, in the cities of Etne and Sauda in the south of the country, thermometers at the warmest moment of the day showed above 30 degrees Celsius. In the case of the first of the cities, a record for September heat for the entire country was broken. 30.6 degrees Celsius beat the value of 28.6 degrees Celsius, set in the city of Drammen in 2021.

Temperatures above 25 degrees were recorded in 10 out of 15 districts of the country. Residents decided to take advantage of such weather to spend time on beaches and swim in the water.

“Probably a lot of records were broken”

– Many records were probably broken yesterday and they need to be checked – Karen Jarsto Ervik, meteorologist on duty at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, told local media on Friday. – We think that many of these potential records will be confirmed. The extreme situation we are currently in (…) is a bit worrying – she added.

– We don't often have such high temperatures. However, a period of good weather in September, which can be a bit like summer, does happen, said meteorologist Eli Kari Gjengedal from TV2.

On Friday, temperatures were still above 25 degrees in many places. The summer weather in southern Norway is expected to continue into the weekend.

In Sweden, 31.1 degrees Celsius was recorded in the city of Helsingborg on Wednesday. This is a new Swedish heat record for September. A heatwave is also forecast for Denmark over the next few days.
