A quadruped named Bobi is the oldest living dog in the world, the Lisbon daily Correio da Manha reported on Thursday, based on the Guinness Book of Records. The animal is 30 years old and lives in the village of Conqueiros in central Portugal.

Bobi was born on May 11, 1992. He is a Portuguese guard dog. He lives in Conqueiros near the city of Leiria in central Portugal with his owner Leonel Costa.

“This is the oldest living dog in the world. He is 30 years and 266 days old” – wrote the Lisbon newspaper “Correio da Manha”, pointing out that dogs of this breed usually do not live longer than 14 years.

Bobi has a document issued in May 1992 by a local veterinarian, drawn up shortly after birth, which confirms his age.

The secret of longevity

Bobie’s caretakers claim that the secret to their pet’s longevity may be a “stress-free life in the countryside.” Bobi has never been chained. The aged dog, as they indicate, was not fed with food either, but ate meals similar to those eaten by its masters. Bobie’s owners point out that their dog’s longevity may also be affected by a harmonious life of the quadruped with other animals from the farm, in particular with cats, with whom the aged pet likes to play.

The previous record was held by Bluey, an Australian Shepherd who lived to be 29 years and five months old. The title of the oldest bitch in the world was held by Pebbles, who died in October 2022 at the age of 22.
