What will the weather be like on Christmas Day? The closer to the holidays, the more often forecasters look at the calculations of meteorological models. The latest forecasts show that winter with snow will come, but only on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
We must expect great weather variability in the pre-Christmas period. It will be cold and warm alternately. And what does Christmas look like?
– The American GFS model confirms the appearance of a cold gulf over Europe a few days before Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, an atmospheric front with wet snowfall will enter the western regions of the country – informs tvnmeteo.pl forecaster Arleta Unton-Pyziołek.
However, the cold and snow will not last until Christmas. Warmer air is expected to flow behind the front, which will favor autumn rather than winter precipitation. – During the holidays, the forecast shows a moving front after front, so there will be alternating showers, rain, clear showers and sleet – explains the forecaster.
Winter after Christmas?
The next – and big – weather change awaits us immediately after December 26. – Winter may come just on New Year's Eve. After Christmas, a large bay of cold will develop related to the North Atlantic cyclone – announces Unton-Pyziołek.
As he adds, “the already clearly visible polar vortex is expected to extend from northwestern Russia to central Canada.” What does this mean for us? The cold from the Arctic will probably also reach Europe and reach Poland. At the same time, it will favor the formation of a strong low over Scandinavia, which may bring heavy snowfall.
– The weather at the turn of December and January has a chance to stabilize and take on more winter-like features. If, after a large low-pressure system passes over Scandinavia, a high pressure is then formed, frost will follow the snowstorms, explains our forecaster. – We will then enter a thermal winter, during which the average daily temperature reaches below zero – he adds.
