Chemik Police is a club that has dominated women's volleyball in recent seasons. In the years 2014-2024, only twice has a different team won the Polish championship. A few months ago, the players won their 11th title. In this way, they repeated the record achievement of AZS AWF Warszawa or AZS Warszawa. What's more, they did it despite the fact that the team was and still is struggling with financial problems. And although the season has not started yet, Chemik is making headlines again. The club has just issued an official statement in which it announced that a notification has been filed with the prosecutor's office. It is directed against… the former president.
Chemik Police issued a statement. The former president may face charges. A notice was filed
The previous president was Paweł Frankowski, although the statement did not mention him by name. He held the position from 2016 to March 2024. The chemist informed that he had notified the prosecutor's office of the suspicion that a crime had been committed by the former activist. Such suspicions arose after conducting an audit, in accordance with the recommendations of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty and the new Supervisory Board of the Club. The team provided information on the exact criminal act in question.
“According to the report, the former President, who was responsible for managing the Club's assets, abused the powers granted to him and failed to fulfill his obligations, which caused significant property damage amounting to at least PLN 227,000. This event qualifies as a crime under Article 296 of the Penal Code,” we read.
The club then informed what lies behind the “abuse of authority” and other allegations. “The audit showed that in recent years the club has concluded employment contracts for which there is no evidence of the actual performance of duties. As a result of the audit, it was found that there were two fictitious employment contracts that had no reflection in reality. These are significant amounts that may turn out to be even higher,” it was added. It is also known what positions were in question. We are talking about the position of marketing and organizational matters. “There is no evidence that these people actually performed their official duties,” we read.
Police Chemist in a Difficult Situation. Struggle for Existence
The case will most likely now be looked into by the prosecutor's office. In turn, the club is trying to complete the squad for the next season. However, the task is not easy. After losing its title sponsor, Grupa Azoty, it is a big challenge. It is already known that the club will not take part in the Champions League and will focus mainly on the struggles at home. The goal will be to defend the title won last season.
The new president, Radosław Anioł, is trying to put in order primarily the club's financial affairs, which we can read about in the aforementioned press release. The activist also spoke about it in an April interview with Agnieszka Niedziałek from Sport.pl.
– You could say I work two or three jobs. The main activities are searching for partners and sponsors and talking to players and their agents. One issue is getting out of debt and finishing things related to this season, the other – activities related to the next games, including building the team – he emphasized.
