The roof of the church in Sosnowiec burned down. The diocese is asking for your support

Photos showing the scale of damage were posted on social media by the Sosnowiec curia on Thursday. Pastor Andrzej Mróz said in a message that he received the information about the fire with great pain. On Wednesday, the host of the parish of St. Floriana was on vacation.

“I was relieved to hear that no one was physically hurt. I thank the vicars and parishioners for securing the Blessed Sacrament and the equipment of the sacristy. I also thank the State and Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Police, the Municipal Guard, the Poviat Crisis Management Center of the City of Sosnowiec, the Rescue Service, which selflessly joined the rescue operation. I would also like to thank the Diocesan Bishop Grzegorz Kaszek for his interest and support, “wrote the parish priest.

He added that further actions aimed at repairing the damage will be taken in consultation with the diocesan curia. “I entrust the whole matter to Merciful God and people of good will. May this tragedy unite our parish community even more. I am asking for prayer” – summed up Fr. Frost.

Communication regarding fire in the parish of St. Florian in Sosnowiec also published by the Bishop of Sosnowiec, Grzegorz Kaszak. He also thanked parish priests and firefighters.

“This Sunday, in all parishes of our diocese, a letter addressed to the faithful of the Sosnowiec diocese will be read. I will also inform about the ways of helping the parish of St. Florian. Any help can also be sent to the parish account number. I count on the generosity and support of all people of good will.” the bishop wrote. He appealed to surround the parish community with prayer. “As a priestly and diocesan family, let us be in solidarity with all those affected by the tragedy,” he appealed.

Information about the fire on the roof of the church reached the services on Wednesday after 2 p.m. 14.00. Firefighters put it out after a few hours of action, in which more than 70 firefighters took part. The entire roof of the temple burned down. They were on the roof photovoltaic panelsbut it is not yet possible to determine whether this installation was the source of the fire – the fire brigade points out.
