The highest peak of Ecuador and its surroundings was covered by a thick snow cover. This view attracted a lot of tourists who took the opportunity to spend time among white landscapes. A volcano called Chimborazo is a unique point on the world map.
Although summer is currently in the southern hemisphere, winter conditions prevail high in the Andes. For two weeks at Chimborazo, the highest peak of Ecuador, it was snowing intensively. When the aura calmed down a bit, many people decided on a trip to the mountains.
Point closest to the stars
According to the portal “El Universo”, on the weekend the summit was visited by hundreds of people, including tourists from South America, where snow is rare. Some visitors decided to climb the top, and some remained in the nature reserve below, snowmen and snowy sculptures were created by the road. However, some visitors complained about a large crush on the way to the top.
– It is better to go early, in advance to be able to take good photos and see how beautiful snow is – one of the tourists said.
The Chimborazo volcano has a maximum height of 6268 meters above sea level. Although there are many higher mountains in the Andes, it is unique for one thing – its peak is the farthest point from the center of the earth. This is related to the location of the summit near the equator. Our planet rotates and through the centrifugal force releases a bit on the equator, which makes it thicker there. Due to this bulge, the highest point Chimborazo is over 2072 meters away from the center of the earth than the Everest peak and makes the Ecuadorian volcano a closest to the stars a point on earth.
