The area of Avdiivka and Pokrovsk in the Donetsk Oblast has been the main target of Russian military operations in Ukraine in recent days and will probably remain so in the coming week, the British Ministry of Defense said on Sunday.

The daily intelligence update reported that in Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, the fighting is focused on an aggregate factory that has become a Russian bridgehead in the southeastern part of the town and from which Ukrainian forces are trying to push the Russians out.

However, no Russian advances were recorded in the last 72 hours in Chasiv Yar. The most intense fighting took place south of it, in the towns of Ivanivske and Klishchivka. In the second one, Ukrainian forces were to conduct a counterattack, achieving some tactical gains.

It added that towards Kurakhivka, west of Donetsk, Russian forces have made further advances within Krasnohorivka and probably now control most of the town, with Ukrainian forces present only on its northern edge.

“Russian operational pace is still the highest there”

“The Avdiivka-Pokrovsk sector is likely to remain the primary focus of Russian efforts, and the Russian operational tempo remains at its peak there. Russian forces have made little progress along a relatively broad front toward the villages of Nju-York, Pivnichne, and Pivdenne. The Avdiivka-Pokrovsk sector is likely to remain an area of significant operational focus for Russian forces over the next week as they attempt to maintain pressure on defending Ukrainian forces and, if the opportunity arises, make territorial gains,” it said.
