Donald Trump has changed, and vice presidential candidate JD Vance understands his vision of the country, the participants of the Republican convention in Milwaukee, former Trump campaign chief Corey Lewandowski and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, told TVN's “Fakty” correspondent in the USA Marcin Wrona. The latter said in a conversation with the media on the sidelines of the convention that the situation in the world is reminiscent of 1938, and Vladimir Putin's actions are reminiscent of Adolf Hitler's actions before World War II. The former US president appeared in public on Monday for the first time since Saturday's assassination attempt.

Donald Trump was officially elected as the Republican Party's presidential candidate on Monday USA. He won all of the nearly 2,400 delegate votes at the convention in Milwaukee. His vice presidential candidate will be the controversial senator JD Vance, one of the biggest opponents of aid for Ukraine.

– JD Vance is a person who served his country in the US Army as a Marine – reminded Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump's chief of staff in 2016, currently an advisor to the Republican Party. – He is a Yale law graduate. He is very intelligent. He understands the vision of the country presented by Donald Trump: America first, but not only America – he emphasized in an interview with Marcin Wrona, the correspondent of “Fakty” TVN in the USA.

– Poland has not had a greater friend in the last 100 years than Donald Trump. We know what situation Poland is in and what kind of neighbors it has to deal with. President Duda and President Trump have a fantastic relationship and I think you will see that this relationship will only develop – he convinced. Corey Lewandowski also assessed that under Trump's rule “the world will be stronger and safer”.

McCarthy: This is a different Trump than the one you've seen before

The former US president appeared in public for the first time since Saturday's assassination attempt during Monday's session of the Republican convention in Milwaukee. The party's candidate sat in the audience with his ear bandaged.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy told a correspondent for TVN's “Fakty” that “this situation has had a positive effect on him”. – Of course, when we talked, he thought about Corey (a firefighter who died at the Trump rally – ed.), who lost his life there – he emphasized.

– He also said that he heard a shot. It's a great blessing that he didn't die. I think he understands how precious life is and the time that he serves America. You hear a lot more about unity from him. After talking to Biden, he emphasized that it was a very nice conversation. This is a different Trump than the one you saw before – he assessed.

Kevin McCarthy admitted that “we will have our differences in the campaign.” “But we will argue in a different tone than before,” he added.

McCarthy: Putin is doing what Hitler did before World War II

On Tuesday, during a meeting with foreign media during the Republican convention in Milwaukee, McCarthy was asked about the policy of a potential second Trump administration regarding wars in Ukrainein the light choice Senator J.D. Vance – a leading critic of aid to Ukraine – as his vice presidential candidate.

– No offense to JD Vance – he's smart, he's young, but he's the vice president. It doesn't matter who President Trump would pick for vice president. He's in a stronger position today (…) I think there will be a debate within the party about that, but I don't think you should be afraid of President Trump – McCarthy said. As he argued, Vladimir Putin did not commit any aggression while Trump was president.

McCarthy also assessed that, in his opinion, the situation in the world resembles 1938, and Vladimir Putin's actions are strikingly similar to what Adolf Hitler did before the war. He stated that, like Hitler, Putin wants to restore the empire after losing the war and, like Hitler, is currently trying to create a “new axis of evil”. “Ultimately, the situation is such that we still have over 300 votes in the House of Representatives ready to ensure that Putin will not go any further,” the politician reassured.

The former speaker – removed from his position in a revolt by Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters in his own party – claimed that the Republican establishment modeled on Ronald Reagan is still strong and is the backbone of the party. He also argued that he himself has good relations with the former president and did not rule out the prospect of serving in his potential cabinet.

“I spoke to him the day after the attack and I feel very positive about his prospects of winning the election. I think he will be a better president than last time because he has more knowledge. And if you look at his campaign, he is much more disciplined,” he said.
