Commenting on immigration, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz mentioned being torpedoed by Donald Trump cross-party a draft law tightening restrictions at the border and about dissemination untrue theories about immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.
– We had the fairest and strictest immigration bill this country has ever seen (…) But this is how it ends when you don't want to solve the problem, you just want to demonize (immigrants – ed.). And Senator Vance says he wants to “make stories” to bring attention to the problem, Walz said.
– This denigrates a large number of peoplewho are here legally in the Springfield community. Ohio's Republican governor said that wasn't true. Don't do this. This has its consequences, he noted.
Vance accused meanwhile KamalÄ™ Harris o deliberate pursuit of an “open borders” policy and allowing drugs to flow freely, while recalling his mother's problems with opioid addiction.
– This (immigration – ed.) leads to huge problems in United States: parents who cannot afford health care, overburdened schools. This must end, the Republican noted.
Debate in the USA. JD Vance hits out at Kamala Harris. “Censorship on an industrial scale”
– Kamala Harris dealt with censorship on an industrial scale. She did this during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was doing this about a lot of other issues, and that, in my opinion, is a much greater threat to democracy than what he said Donald Trumpwhen he said protesters should protest peacefully on January 6, Vance said, referring to Trump's behavior during the storming of the Capitol.
He blamed the current administration about the desire to censor social media users for spreading disinformation.
Vance stated that Talking about Trump's threat to democracy is 'ridiculous'because he finally gave up power in 2021.
Walz, in turn, accused Vance of practicing “historical revisionism” and noted that Trump is already preparing the ground to once again contest the election results.
The Republican senator promised that if Walz and Kamala Harris win the election, He will acknowledge their result and pray for them.
USA. Walz-Vance debate: Dispute over views on abortion
During the debate, Governor Walz warned that Donald Trump's team wants to introduce a pregnancy register and make access to contraception more difficultwhile “abortion restrictions have already led to the deaths of women.”
– You will soon meet their “Project 2025”: we will have a pregnancy register. It will limit, if not prevent, access to contraception and limit, if not eliminate, access to infertility treatment. For many of you listening, including me, infertility treatment is the reason I have a child – Walz said.
Vance denied his party had such plans, although he admitted they did his views on abortion were not shared by much of the countrywhich was the proof referendum in 2023 in his state – Ohio – where voters voted to protect the right to abortion.
– And I think that's what I learned from that we need to do a better jobwhen it comes to regaining people's trust, Vance said.
He also noted that he and Trump are in favor of maintaining the current differentiated regulations abortion depending on individual states.
Walz recalled the story of a young woman, Amber Thurman, who was unable to have an abortion in her home state – Georgia – and died while traveling to North Carolinawhere she planned the procedure.
He added that if it weren't for Trump's elected judges' repeal of nationwide abortion rights, the woman could still be alive.
