Tourists have found a package of what appears to be cocaine on a Florida beach, local authorities have reported. This is yet another similar case – in recent months, similar packages of the drug worth millions of dollars have been found off the coast of that state on at least a few occasions.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported on social media this week that around 11 a.m. Sunday, guests at the Islands of Islamorada resort in Florida found a package containing “possible cocaine.” The package was found on the beach and contained 16 “blocks” of the drug.
In accordance with procedure, the package was handed over to the US Customs and Border Protection. The weight of the package found was not specified, so it was not possible to estimate its black market value. However, a photo published by the services shows that it was about the size of two human hands, wrapped in duct tape and had a color photo of a buggy stuck to it.

Cocaine packages on the beach
CBS News reminds us that this is another similar case, because this year, packages of drugs have already been found on the coast of Florida at least five times. Last month, a total of 25 packages of cocaine were found on one of the beaches, weighing a total of about 31 kg, and the customs office estimated their value at one million dollars. In June, about 29 kg of cocaine was found floating in packages in the sea. Also in 2023, packages containing cocaine have been found in this area several times.
The station notes that 90 percent of the cocaine that reaches North America comes from Colombiaand drug dealers are trying to smuggle it into USA including by boats and ships across the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Sometimes they also intentionally throw them into the water so as not to be caught by law enforcement or to be fished out by other smugglers who will bring them to the United States.
