At least 10 people were injured in a shooting at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills. The injured were taken to several hospitals with “various types of injuries,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
– I am devastated by the news of the shooting in Rochester Hills. We are monitoring the situation as updates come in and are in contact with local authorities, said Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Preliminary findings show that “the suspect drove his car to the recreational area, got out of the vehicle and opened fire from a distance of approximately 20 feet (approx. 6 meters).”

The inspectors conducting the investigation have not yet determined the perpetrator's motives. The person whom the police consider a suspect barricaded himself in a house approximately 800 m from the scene of the incident. The house is surrounded by officers. – We are trying to contact this person, but to no avail. We are in the process of obtaining a search warrant, Sheriff Bouchard added. Investigators do not rule out that there may be more weapons in the house, but it is unclear whether the suspect has access to them. According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which monitors shootings this year, USA 7,625 people and 14,333 were injured. The GVA defines a mass shooting as an event that results in four or more people being injured or killed, excluding the attacker.
