The Committee on Health Care Protection sent an open letter to the United States Senate in which it appealed not to confirm the candidacy of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the position of head of the Department of Health and Social Care. Over 18,000 doctors have already signed the letter.
The letter to the Senate was published by the Committee on Health Care Protection on Thursday on their website. The appeal, which has already been signed by over 18,000 doctors, the decision to appoint Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services was described as “a slap in the face to every health care professional who has dedicated their lives to protecting patients from preventable disease and death.” “Americans deserve better,” it added.
Call to reject Kennedy Jr.'s candidacy
Doctors oppose Kennedy's nomination because, among other things, “RFK Jr. has spent decades undermining public trust in vaccines by spreading false claims and conspiracy theories, even going so far as to compare vaccination programs to the actions of Nazi Germany,” it said. “his appointment poses a direct threat to the safety of patients and the general public.” The committee also adds that “RFK Jr. has no credible experience in health care or medicine.”
The 70-year-old did not respond to a request from the American television station NBC News for comment on the appeal. However, the spokeswoman of the Team for the Transfer of Power Donald Trump Kate Miller called the letter “another scam.” “Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s candidacy will be confirmed and those who spend their time undermining his authority will have no place or voice in the Department of Health and Human Services,” she wrote in a message sent to the station.
As the Washington Post points out, the nomination of Kennedy Jr. from the beginning “caused serious concern among medical communities, scientists dealing with pharmacology and medicine, as well as public health experts.”
Kennedy's theories
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. he is an opponent of vaccines and a supporter of many conspiracy theories. In 2015, he compared the vaccination program to the Holocaust, and after the outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus claimed that the COVID-19 vaccination is “the deadliest vaccine ever produced.” He also talked about the “ethnic targeting” of the coronavirus, which would allegedly be programmed to spare the Chinese and Ashkenazi Jews, and especially maliciously attack white and black people.
He also puts forward a theory about the link between mass shootings and the use of antidepressants, which is popularized by such far-right figures as former Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson and congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. The future Secretary of Health also claims that the 5G network is used to “control the behavior” of people and steal their data.
Kennedy Jr. he is the son of Robert F. Kennedy, the prosecutor general, assassinated in 1968, and the nephew of American President John F. Kennedy, also assassinated in 1963.
