A snow avalanche carries away a snowmobile in Utah. According to the local avalanche center, the incident occurred during a trip between two brothers – one of them accidentally caused masses of snow to fall, which killed his brother. Fortunately, the men had the appropriate equipment and escaped the trap.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Uinta-Wasatch-Cache Park in the northern part of the state. Two brothers went on a snowmobile trip. While sliding down the slope, one of them noticed that the ground around and under him “started to undulate” and the snow moved slightly.
Difficult conditions
The man immediately turned to the side of the slope, escaping from the approaching avalanche. His brother was less fortunate, standing next to his scooter down the slope. The avalanche took him almost 140 meters down and completely buried him.
My brother came to help the buried man and used an avalanche transceiver to locate him. As he approached the place indicated by the device, he noticed that the fingers of one hand were sticking out of the snow. The buried man was rescued – as it turned out, he suffered only minor injuries.
The Utah Avalanche Center said that if the men were not equipped with the appropriate equipment, the story could have ended tragically. Forecasters warned that favorable conditions for avalanches are still expected in the coming days.
