The demolition of the tenement house at Łucka 8 has started. The police were called to the site because, according to the conservator of monuments, the work was being carried out illegally. The building was removed from the register of monuments in the fall, but proceedings are underway to place its perimeter walls under conservation protection.

Information about the start of demolition is confirmed by Wola spokesman Marcin Jakubik in an interview with tvnwarszawa.pl. Heavy equipment is working on the property on Saturday. Photos provided to us by the district office show that almost half of the building has already been demolished.

– The police, city guards and the Masovian monument conservator are already on site. It looks like the excavator's work has been stopped for a while, he says. He also emphasizes that, according to the Masovian conservator of monuments, the building is still protected, so demolition is a crime. – The conservator of monuments did not consent to these works – adds Jakubik.

A moment after 12 p.m., information about the police being called to the site to stop the demolition was provided by the Masovian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments.

“We would like to remind you that MWKZ initiated administrative proceedings regarding the entry into the register of monuments of the relics of the tenement house at 8 Łucka Street, at the request of social organizations – the Masław Association and the Defender of Warsaw Monuments. The proceedings aim to assess whether, in the current state of preservation, the remains of the tenement house can be covered by separate protection. conservation work, including the facades and the gate passage,” it was stated in a post on the MWKZ Facebook profile. “In this situation, undertaking any work during the proceedings is illegal,” it was emphasized.

Recall that the tenement house at 8 Łucka Street disappeared from the register of monuments by the decision of the General Conservator of Monuments. This is the result of the owner's actions, who sought to remove the facility from the register and the judgment of the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw, which provided the basis for this. Community activists and the authorities of Wola found this decision incomprehensible and applied to the Masovian Conservator of Monuments to re-protect part of the property.

The oldest tenement house in Wola

The building at 8 Łucka Street is the oldest tenement house in Wola. The history of Abram Włodawer's tenement house dates back to the 19th century. It was built in 1878. It was one of the few in this part of the city that survived the tragedy of World War II.

The tenement house has been on the register of monuments since 1992, which – theoretically – obliged the owner to take care of its condition, preserve the historic elements unchanged and carry out regular conservation works. In 2012, it was returned to the heirs of the former owners, then it was taken over by JM Invest. The developer applied to the Ministry of Culture to remove the building from the register due to its constantly deteriorating condition. The ministry refused, the company fought in the courts until it finally achieved what it wanted. Social activists from the Tu Jest, Tu Stało association said that after the last Provincial Administrative Court judgment “declaring the property lost in historic value, the ministry was forced to remove the facility from the register.”
