An Indian citizen has been charged with aiding and abetting illegal border crossing. The man helped unidentified individuals get to Spain. The case came to light during the arrest of foreigners at Chopin Airport in June this year.
The spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office, prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, said that during the proceedings it was established that the suspect had provided false passports to unidentified persons, booked airline tickets from Warsaw to Barcelona, ​​Valencia and Madrid, provided a hotel in Poland, organised transport from the hotel to the airport and provided instructions on how to behave during security checks carried out by the Border Guard at the airport.
The case started when On June 27, three foreigners were detained at Chopin Airport: Gurpreeta S., Karima R. and Redounane E., who, during the inspection, presented documents issued in the names of other persons.
– The detained foreigners were charged with attempting to cross the border of the Republic of Poland illegally and by deception. In their explanations, the detainees indicated Gurpreet S. as the organizer of their trip. They transferred over 1,000 euros per person to him – said prosecutor Skiba.
It turned out that Gurpreet S.'s name was linked to flight bookings of other foreigners detained for using other people's documents.
International criminal group
The suspect Gurpreet S. did not admit to committing the acts he was charged with and gave statements that were inconsistent with the evidence gathered in the case. The court accepted the prosecutor's motion and imposed a three-month detention on the suspect Gurpreet S.
– As part of the ongoing investigation, based on information from the investigating authorities of the Kingdom of Spain and the Federal Republic of Germany, it was confirmed that the suspect Gurpreet S. operated within an organized international criminal group involved in facilitating illegal migration of residents of Central Asia through the so-called Balkan Channel – noted the spokesman for the prosecutor's office.
For acts committed in Poland, the suspect faces a prison sentence of up to three years.
