The District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw is analyzing materials in the case of a false bomb threat that caused the return of a LOT Polish Airlines plane flying from Warsaw to Newark in the US. Earlier, the police reported the detention of eight people, who were released after questioning.

– Materials in this case have been submitted to the prosecutor's office. They will be updated and analyzed. They require further supplementation, among other things, in the matter of the perpetrator's method of operation – said on Monday the spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, when asked about the plane's return to Warsaw.

The prosecutor's office spokesman stressed that a decision on the direction of the investigation will be made within a few days. “At this stage, several prohibited acts cannot be ruled out,” he added.

On Sunday, a Polish carrier's plane flying from Warsaw to Newark Airport (near New York) in the USA, was returned to Warsaw in connection with a signal about a potential threat on board. After landing, airport and state services were to take appropriate actions. Warsaw Chopin Airport spokeswoman Anna Dermont informed tvn24.pl that “the airport services received information about a possible dangerous cargo on board the plane to Newark”.

“After receiving a signal about a potential threat on board the aircraft performing flight LO11 from Warsaw to Newark in the United States, the captain, in accordance with the procedure, decided to return to the airport in Warsaw,” the LOT Polish Airlines press office reported.

Eight people arrested

The Warsaw police also announced on Sunday that officers had detained eight people suspected of making a false bomb threat on board the plane. They were men aged 23 to 60. It was noted that the passengers had been safely evacuated, but that “actions are ongoing under Article 224a of the Penal Code” (false alarm – ed.).

Those detained were released after questioning. It is likely that there was a spoofing attack, which involves impersonating an arbitrary phone number.
