The Greenery Board has begun preparations for the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge in the Czerniakowski port. The crossing is to be ready at the turn of spring and summer next year.
On Wednesday, the representative of the mayor of Warsaw for bicycle transport announced via social media that “preparatory work on the construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge in the Czerniakowski port has already visibly begun.”
“The investment in the Wisła District is being carried out by the Greenery Board. The contractor is the Primost Południe company, and the whole thing should be ready at the turn of spring and summer next year,” we read in the entry, which is accompanied by a visualization of the new bridge, as well as photos of the fenced area. Construction of the new crossing is to begin there soon.
A new bridge in the Czerniakowski port
In January 2022, officials announced announcement of a tender for the design of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge. It will be located on the southern side of the Łazienkowski Bridge (there used to be a wooden footbridge there years ago). This will create a communication connection between the western and eastern shores of the port basin. Today, to get to Cypel Czerniakowski, you have to make a detour, choosing the culvert above the port entrance (at Płyta Desantu) or Zaruskiego Street (at the height of the Piaseczyński Channel and the footbridge over Wisłostrada). The new crossing is to be connected with the footbridge running under the Łazienkowski Bridge, which today ends before Wisłostrada.
The bridge will generally be intended for pedestrians and cyclists, but will be adapted to allow emergency vehicles to pass over it if necessary.
As officials reported at the time, the bridge will be seven meters wide: the pedestrian area – 1.5 m, the roadway – 3 m, the bike path – 2 m, the rest under the roadsides. From bank to bank the bridge will be 60 meters long, and the entire structure 150 m.
The bridge will be single-span with two supports on the banks of a steel structure. The crossing will not be available for regular car traffic. An exception will be vehicles of port services and maintenance. Parking spaces have been planned in the area of the bridge.
