Two trams of line number 2 collided at the junction of Marymoncka and Trasa Most Północny. Six people were injured, of which three were seriously injured and taken to hospital. The disruptions lasted three hours.
– On the approach to the Pułkowa junction from the direction of the Północny Bridge, the tram of line no. 2 ran into a standing tram of the same line towards the Młociny Metro terminus. Six people were injured, services are on site – Tramwaje Warszawskie spokesman Witold Urbanowicz told us. He added that public transport passengers had to prepare for longer disruptions. The services had to pull one of the trams off the tracks.
When asked about the initial causes of this incident, he replied that one of the trams had a brake failure.
“Three people went to hospital”
– Six people were injured, three of whom went to hospital and another three were treated on the spot – said Staff Sergeant Paweł Chmura from the Warsaw Police. He noted that “the drivers of both trams were sober.” – The cause of the accident was a brake failure in the first tram – he confirmed.
– The first tram stopped abruptly and hit the tram of the second line – reported senior captain Piotr Świerkot from the City Headquarters of the State Fire Service. He said that eight fire brigades were at the scene. – We provided assistance to the injured and secured the scene – added Świerkot.
As our reporter found out, the injured were passengers who required hospitalization due to severe contusions and broken limbs.
Detours and replacement transport
The operation of trams on line 2 was suspended and trains marked with number 17 were directed to the Młociny loop. A replacement bus line “Za tramwaj” was launched between Młociny and Winnica. The difficulties lasted about three hours.
After 9 p.m., the spokesman for Tramwaje Warszawskie told us that tram traffic over the Northern Bridge (Skłodowska-Curie) had been resumed.
