The citizens of Warsaw have chosen the projects of the participatory budget for the 11th time. Out of 1183 ideas, 293 will be implemented, including 20 city-wide ones. The total amount allocated for this purpose is over PLN 105 million.

On Tuesday, July 16, the results of this year's voting for the participatory budget were announced during a gala. Warsaw Deputy Mayor Adriana Porowska recalled that residents chose from 1,183 ideas.

– This is a great tool, thanks to which residents can specifically communicate the changes they expect in their surroundings. We can also see that these needs are changing. A few years ago, people mainly voted for changes in public space. Currently, Warsaw residents are increasingly willing to choose projects related to education, development, and assistance – said Adriana Porowska, quoted in the city hall's announcement.

District projects

Each person voting in the participatory budget could support 15 projects from one district of their choice. “The greatest involvement in the voting stage was shown by residents of WesoÅ‚a, Ursus and Å»oliborz. In Bemowo, on the other hand, 25 ideas were selected, which will be implemented in 2025, which is the highest result compared to other districts,” the capital city hall indicates in a press release.

The most expensive project selected at the district level is “Green instead of concrete”, the cost of which is estimated at over PLN 1.8 million. This idea was submitted in Mokotów. “The project involves replacing concrete and asphalt wastelands in Mokotów with trees, shrubs, flower beds, flower beds or rain gardens. Additionally, plantings in the road lanes of streets will be supplemented. Here and there, a sidewalk for pedestrians will be supplemented” – we read in the project description. 2,462 residents voted for it.

Among the district projects, the most votes were won by “Let's plant 100 large trees in Praga-PoÅ‚udnie”. 3,793 people voted for this idea.

Citywide projects

In the case of city-wide projects, the first place this year went to the initiative “You are not alone – first psychological help for children and youth. Let's do it again!”. This is a continuation of the project known from previous editions of BO. 24,845 people voted for it. Second place went to the project “Free sanitary pads in schools”, which received 23,722 votes. The third most popular project was: “Cycling back and forth – new and good bicycle paths”, which received 22,456 votes. “The project consists of building a new bicycle path and modernizing the existing ones based on their importance in the transport system, technical condition and implementation possibilities. The project includes bicycle paths in the whole of Warsaw, in Ochota, Praga Północ and Mokotów” – we read in the description of the idea.

“For the implementation of city-wide projects, for which all residents of Warsaw could vote, funds in the amount of over PLN 30 million were allocated,” informed the capital city hall. The full results of the vote are already published on the website bo.um.warszawa.pl.
