The downpours hit Western Spain on Friday. It rained the most in Galicia – in Lugo, water completely flooded some streets and broke into the city stadium. According to local media, such an unstable aura can haunt the Iberian Peninsula for some time.
On Friday, the Iberian Peninsula came on the intensive rainfall zone associated with storm Olivier. Local meteorological agencies announced alarms before strong rain and possible flooding – on Saturday in Portugal they covered all the districts of the country, and in Spain the threat covered the western and northern part of the country.
Landslides and flooding
On Friday, rain and hail were most of the residents of Spanish Galicia. In Lugo, the main streets were flooded in the afternoon. The water broke into some of the buildings, including the Pazo Dos Desports stadium, as well as damaged smaller objects along the river, including a wooden pedestrian bridge. In the city's beltway, rain caused damage to the retaining wall, the fragments of which fell to the road. Traffic on the road has been temporarily suspended.
As the local media explained, the next week the weather on the Iberian Peninsula will be variable. The climatologist Carlos President gave the Portuguese portal Sic Noticias that forecasts for Central Europe announce positive rainfall anomalies at least until Christmas. These forecasts are confirmed by the Spanish meteorological agency Aemet, announcing for the coming days “the advantage of unstable aura”.
