The head of the Ministry of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, announced that due to the situation in South Korea, there is no threat to the implementation of arms contracts with the country. South Korean President Jun Suk Jeol declared martial law, which the National Assembly voted to lift.
“We are monitoring the political situation in South Korea. We are in constant contact with our attaché in Seoul, as well as his Korean counterpart in Poland. We have received an assurance on behalf of the Korean Ministry of Defense from Deputy Minister of Defense Il Sung that our cooperation and implementation of arms contracts is in no way endangered,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Last year Poland and South Korea signed an arms agreement under which the Korean side is to supply tanks, howitzers and fighters to our country.
National Assembly for the abolition of martial law
South Korean President Jun Suk Jeol declared martial law on Tuesday evening local time, accusing the opposition of sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government's work.
Just over an hour later, the National Assembly voted to ask the president to end the state. According to the constitution, martial law must be lifted when the parliamentary majority demands it, explains Yonhap news agency.
At the plenary session, the resolution calling for the abolition of martial law was adopted in the presence of 190 members, all of whom voted in favor. “After the adoption of this resolution, the decision to declare martial law is invalid,” said the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly.
