The funeral allowance will not increase next year, said Finance Minister Andrzej Domański in the “#BezKitu” program on TVN24. He added that this will happen “probably from 2026”.
– When it comes to the so-called funeral allowance, this is indeed an element that we talked about in the election campaign. We know that it has not been increased for many, many years. We are also aware that when the funeral allowance increases, unfortunately the costs of funeral services often increase as well. Well, they are very high now anyway – said Domański.
Finance Minister on when funeral allowance will increase
The host of the program, Radomir Wit, said that according to calculations by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy, the cost of a funeral is from PLN 11 to 13 thousand, and the amount of the funeral allowance is PLN 4 thousand.
– It will of course increase. We discussed with the Minister of Labor (Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk) how high the dynamics of this increase should be. We will also discuss the date – said the Minister of Finance.
He added, however: – This benefit will not increase next year, because we have a certain budget constraint. (…) Rather from 2026. We talked to the Minister of Labour that then we would like this benefit to increase to the level we talked about.
Domański said that if he remembers correctly, the benefit is to increase to the amount of “over six thousand four hundred zlotys”.
– There is a discussion going on. Of course, the Ministry of Labor, Family and Work has a slightly different approach, slightly different priorities than Ministry of Finance. Although our cooperation is going, I would say, very well, he said.
The current amount of the funeral allowance, which, in accordance with Article 80 of the Act of 17 December 1998 on pensions and pensions from the Social Insurance Fund is PLN 4,000, effective from 1 March 2011.
