A policeman protecting a diplomatic convoy in Pakistan's Swat Valley was killed in a roadside bomb blast, police said. None of the diplomats were hurt.

The explosion occurred during a visit by a group of diplomats, whose nationalities were not disclosed, to the Swat Valley in Pakistan. The delegation went there at the invitation of the local chamber of commerce.

“The team leading the convoy was hit by a roadside bomb explosion,” local police officer Zahidullah Khan said.

The explosion killed one policeman and injured four others. After the attack, soldiers and police cordoned off the area and began searching, a senior security official said, adding that a curfew had been imposed in the area.

None of the diplomats were hurt. “All the ambassadors were safe during the attack and were taken to a safe location and later returned to Islamabad,” said Mohammad Ali Gandapur, deputy inspector general of police.

Attacks in the Swat Valley intensified after 2022, when a ceasefire between Islamists active in the region and the government broke down.
