The management board of PKP Cargo has signed 14 letters of intent regarding the employment of the railway company's employees by other companies, the rail freight carrier announced on Monday.
“The PKP Cargo Management Board has signed 14 letters of intent regarding the employment of the company's employees. Thanks to the letters of intent, over 2,000 jobs are now available for employees of PKP Cargo during the restructuring process,” the company announced in a statement on Monday.

It was added that the letters of intent concern employees working in traction teams, shunting teams, technical inspection teams and those working in maintenance and repairs as well as maintenance and overhauls of railway rolling stock.
In mid-June 2024, the first letter of intent was signed – with Polregio to employ up to 300 people. Then, another 13 agreements were concluded, including with: PKP Intercity to employ up to 400 people, PKP Intercity Remtrak – up to 300 people, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe – up to 250 people, Warsem – up to 100 people, Pesa Bydgoszcz and Pesa MiÅ„sk Mazowiecki, PGE Energetyka Kolejowa (up to 100 people), Koleje Wielkopolskie and Koleje Mazowieckie (up to 80 people) and Metro Warszawskie – regarding the employment of approx. 100 people.
PKP Cargo is in the process of mass layoffs, which began on August 14 and are to last until the end of October. Up to 30 percent of its employees, or 4,142, are to leave the company.
According to data from the Office of Rail Transport, PKP Cargo's share in the rail market by weight of transported goods fell in the period January – July 2024 to 27.51% from 31.88% in the same period a year earlier. In 2022, in the period from January to the end of July, PKP Cargo's share in the market of transported goods by weight was 35.93%.
On July 25 this year, the District Court in Warsaw opened the restructuring proceedings of PKP Cargo, in which it decided to open the restructuring proceedings of the debtor – PKP Cargo.
