The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also wrote in a statement that “this is a provocation inconsistent with the relations between Azerbaijan and Poland and it is necessary to refrain from such steps that affect the legitimate security interests of Azerbaijan.”

Andrzej Duda visits Armenia. “I recently talked to the president of Azerbaijan”

President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday he concluded a three-day visit to Armenia. He said that the political talks he held during his visit to this country were devoted to, among others, development of Polish-Armenian cooperation and issues of broadly understood security in the region.

The president noted that the main conflict threatening Armenia's security concerns the country's relations with Azerbaijan. He recalled that he had recently talked about possible solutions and ways to alleviate this situation with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. As he emphasized, the current, difficult political situation is compounded by the conflict between the two countries and the complex relations between their inhabitants.

Duda noted that it exists in Armenia EU civilian mission (EUMA), bringing some success in calming the situation on the border with Azerbaijan. He noted that this mission will last at least until 2027, and Poland is considering increasing the number of representativesparticipating in this project.

Armenia vs. Azerbaijan. Russia abandoned its ally

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been going on since both countries gained independence after the collapse of the USSR, i.e. since the beginning of the 1990s 20th century results from, among others, from the historical events and geographical distribution of the Armenian and Azerbaijani population. Until recently Armenia benefited from Russia's supporthowever, this one failed the ally.

After the final stages of the war in 2020 and 2023 Azerbaijan regained control over Nagorno-Karabakh – an isolated region located, in the light of international lawon the territory of Azerbaijan, but inhabited until last year mainly by the Armenian population. Until the Azerbaijani offensive in 2023, it existed there unrecognized republic supported by Armenia.
